Aspera Ad Astra Reborn

Well, after taking some time thinking about how to get things structured, I decided to start out with three of my boxes:

- thor: Home Dev- Gentoo/WinXP Box
- dev-box: The new primary development Server (PHP / POSTGRES)
- cerberus: Secondary Gateway for an IntraNet System (BSD, covering for Linux/Windows- Intranet, some Services)

Currenty I'm collecting all relevant data from these boxes into tars. And it's a lot of stuff, I tell you. I'll need to sort out all that stuff before I can go on. (Currently over 20 Gigs of PDFs, pictures, source code, Logfiles and tidbits that are around... and counting. )
Aside from that I'm working on "dia"ing my current server setups and applications and then writing a migration timeline to the new setup. (I'll make the latter available here some time next week).

Anyone have a nice idea for a naming scheme for all those boxes? I've been dabling with the "Sector" System from Wing Commander for naming my boxes, but I'm not quite happy with it yet, and I need something easy to remember and with enough names in it to support my future setup.

Sadly, I still have to run Windows at home, because to tell the truth, for photography stuff, there's nothing comparable to Photoshop in my eyes. I haven't had it running under Wine yet, so if anyone can give me any feedback on that, just shout out at me. ... Perhaps I should try it out before I wipe my discs.

After actually recieving some feedback on my previous post, I created a new category: "Consolidation".

I'll use this category to blog about my adventures trying to get all my IT stuff into a more manageable
cluster, shutting down old stuff, rewriting old code and whatever else turns up.

I hope some people can actually use this.

New Blog, new site, new everything... more or less.

I decided that I should clean up my collection of servers and websites, throw away some old domain names, get new Mailadresses and Contact stuff... the usual stuff.

Handling everything just got way to tiresome, mostly because a lot of things were built on top of another. And since I got some time to spare currently, I thought I'd do a complete redesign of my IT systems.

Of course that meant trashing the old blog and replacing it with a new one.

Reworking a dozen or so servers (Different OS- Types through and through) and about two dozen websites (some on their own servers)... well, it could take a while.
