I just got around to reinstalling Ubuntu... and I need a newer 'wine' version than the one provided normally... so here's a quick walkthrough:
The process is pretty simple, on a console (You do know what you are doing, right?): 1. sudo bash 2. wget -q http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/387EE263.gpg -O- | apt-key add - 3. vim /etc/apt/sources.list Add and save: deb http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt intrepid main deb-src http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt intrepid main 4. apt-get update 5. apt-get install wine Done, have fun. Sunday, December 21. 2008Ubuntu on a Dell Vostro 1510
Well, I just finished installing Ubunut 8.10 on a Dell Vostro 1510.
It worked like a charm, just grab a recent ISO, boot, install. Some hints: - If you want to run Windows as Dual Boot, finish installing it before trying to install Ubuntu. - Activate 3rd- party Drivers for for Nvidia and the Broadcom WLan- card. So far even suspend and hibernate seem to work correctly. Wednesday, September 3. 2008Google Chrome
Well, after reading this and that about Google Chrome and all the attention it is getting, I grabbed a quick download of the "thing".
After a first couple of hours of trying it out and actually liking the sleek design and the speed (it is fast), and enjoying the fact that all the sites I regularly use are looking okay (especially the ones I do myself), I checked my logs for any phonecalls it might have made to the google home... and I was a bit surprised, as it didn't really do anything "bad" or "evil" on a first look. I sure hope I find the time to look at it more thoroughly, and perhaps take a glance at the source code. Aside from that: I found it as a pleasant surfing experience, and for non critical stuff... why not give it a chance. Monday, August 11. 20082600 goes Karlsruhe
Hey everyone,
some people might remember the good old "2600"- Meetups. If you do, and you live near Karlsruhe, Germany, how about reviving it? I'd suggest the usual "First friday in the month"- Meetup for some "hacker"- chitchat. Mail me if you're interested Monday, July 28. 2008

Well, I think it's about time to talk a little bit about the stuff I use... Part I: The XP- Framework.
First of all, what is the XP Framework: From XP-Framework.net: "The XP Framework offers consistent, multi-purpose, object oriented, production-tested collection of classes, APIs for app server connectivity, web services, dynamic web sites, date access and manipulation, logging, collections, I/O, databases, O/R mapping, XML, unittesting, and much more. " And from Planet-XP: "XP technology is a rapid development environment. It will run anywhere PHP runs, Windows, Linux, Unix, MacOS, on your desktop PC, on your enterprise application cluster and on your hoster's webserver. " Now, this does sound like "marketingspeak", but trust me on this: It's from a techie, and since I know the developers in person, I can tell you that you can trust their word. The Framework is licensed under a BSD- License, so you're pretty free in what you actually want to do with it, something I think should be considered when choosing a framework. This thing utilizes some quite advanced programing topics, so you should know what you are doing. A tutorial on how to install the framework and setting up a development environment will follow soon. Well, while rearanging my boxes last night I came upon this situation:
Installing Windows and Ubuntu Hardy on a system with a FakeRaid in Mirror- Mode. Actually, it's pretty easy, so I thought I'd share some small comments about what needs to be done: - Configure your RAID (1) on your BIOS level. - Installer won't work out of the box, boot the live CD. - Install the dmraid package and sync with dmraid -ay, after this the raid drives should become available. - Start the installer from within the live CD environment and install as you like. - After installing continue in LiveCD mode and open a shell. - Mount your partitions, proc, dev, sysfs and whatever else you need. - chroot into the mounted system. - Install dmraid within the chroot. - Check your grub settings. - Unmount everything and reboot into the new system. I've got this working with Windows and Ubuntu on the same RAID currently... the first verify of the mirror after a day didn't show anything broken. Be careful to check and resync your mirror in case there is something wrong. I wonder if it really works this easy, as I usually only use real RAID- Controllers. Remember to always reference the RAID- Drives and not the actual SDX- or HDX- drives! (e.g. use those in /dev/mapper/via_XXXXXXXX or whatever they are called). Wednesday, June 25. 2008Sorry for Offline- Time
Yeah, the site went offline for a couple of days. Sorry about that...
But I've managed to upgrade some stuff... and a new design is coming up, too. Oh, and before I forget: "Go". Friday, April 25. 2008Website moving...

Thursday, April 17. 2008
